Way back in the day, bad guys rode horses and had 6 shooters on their hip. The Wild, Wild West is still alive and well but has gone full digital. Among the many great uses of the web, there are those who consistently find a way to abuse it for their gain. In this case, please be aware that on numerous websites (Craigslist in particular), you will find rental properties available at what appear to be very favorable terms. Lower than normal rent, minimum security deposits and maybe even no credit check. These are all signs of a potential scam designed to separate you from your money and enough of your personal information to facilitate Identity Theft. Our advice would be to only deal with a reputable Real Estate Broker who you actually meet with. If you do deal directly with the “owner” of the property, only do so in person and at the property. Their unwillingness or inability to do so is another red flag. Maybe it is not a coincidence that www. and Wild Wild West seem to go together. Be careful out there. We do offer a Professional Tenant Representation Service to help avoid the general inconvenience and possible heartache of searching for rental property and running into a scammer.
